From the Chair

As you may know, the Council has been deliberating on ideas for the reinvestment of funds. In December 2011, Council Members heard testimony from stakeholders on this matter. By January 27, 2012, Council Members voted on the reinvestment proposals. Following that vote, Council staff was instructed to adjust the Council's budget accordingly and submit a revised budget to the Administration on Children and Families for review and approval. Soon, we will send out an update through our listserv announcing the new investments and next steps. Thank you for your patience.

I am very impressed by the effort and time our Council put into the process of reinvestment. I think we produced some very meaningful and needed new priorities for the Council. These new priorities will increase our workload significantly; however, I think the time and effort we put in during this next year and a half will benefit children and families in our state for a long time to come. Are you an early care and education professional in Texas? The Council is working with the Texas Head Start State Collaboration Office to develop resources to be featured on the new Texas Early Childhood Professional Development System (TECPDS). Resources available on TECPDS will include a statewide professional development calendar, job board, college directory, and professional development planning tool. (Learn more about professional development resources in TECPDS in the Council's new working paper.)
